He was twice married, first to the late Polly Owens Abrams.Surviving, in addition to his loving wife of the home, are: his son, Keith (Sara) Abrams of Laurens; his daughter, Kimberly (Dale) Langley of El Dorado, AR; three brothers, Joseph Preston (Pat) Abrams, Jr. of Ware Shoals, John Thomas Abrams, Sr. of Laurens, and James (Frankie) Abrams of Spartanburg; his sister-in-law, Betty Abrams of Greenwood; and two grandchildren, Renee (Christopher) Roberson and Jessica Langley, both of El Dorado AR. He was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Abrams.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2017 at Ware Shoals First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Wayne Wicker, Rev. John T. Nancy was at his side.Bob was the son of Earl Joseph Mayes and Thelma Roberdia “Caldwell” Mayes. Bob was born in Enid Oklahoma, but in his early childhood moved to the Ketchum/Langley Area.Bob served in the Army with a tour of duty in Japan during War World II and was called back as a reserve in the Korean Conflict.Bob married Gladys June Macon on March 7, 1949, making their home in the Ketchum/Langley area. They had three children John Earl, Robert Whayne and Nancy Ruth. After 22 years of marriage, they divorced. Bob married Betty A Drywater. Betty had two children Scott and Mary Ellen.Bob worked as a heavy construction superintendent until his retirement. Steve enlisted in the US Air Force in April 1953 and was part of the 48th Fighter Interceptor Squadron based at Langley AFB, Hampton, Virginia. After his active duty service, he continued to serve in the USAF Reserve through March 1961. During this time Steve also met and married Golfo Panayiota Kakavas of Washington, DC (the daughter of Greek immigrants as well from Piraeus, Greece). Steve and Golfo had two children, Demetrios (aka Jim) and Hope. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Steve joined the Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Service, progressing to Assistant District Director of Investigations before retiring in June 1985. Steve left behind many friends and colleagues at the Service upon retiring.Steve was preceded in death by his parents Demetrios and Argero (nee Konzaman) Stefanadis; wife Golfo (nee Kakavas); brother Gus D. Stefanadis (Sonja nee Binikos); sister Helen (Jim Tsigounis); and daughter Hope.
